Published in Architectural Digest June 2009, the article profiles a Napa Valley residence designed by architects Hugh Huddleson and Karen Jensen Roberts, with interiors by Jacques Saint Dizier and Richard Westbrook of Saint Dizier Design. The design reflects an intention to integrate the home into the vineyard setting with a quiet, agricultural sensibility. The residence includes a main house, guest and caretaker’s cottages, pool, bocce court, and dining pergola. Lighting throughout by Vita Pehar Design supports the balance of rustic elegance and restrained comfort, emphasizing an interior palette and architectural detailing that complements the surrounding landscape. Landscape design by Frederika Moller.
“We thought of the residence as if it had an agricultural purpose,” says Saint Dizier. “We wanted to bring in the vines, make the house a believable part of the vineyards.” The interior approach was imagined as “a collection over the years”—an assembly of furnishings and finishes with the informality of discovered objects.
