Roots Remembered

Private Residence, Ross, CA

January 2009

A Mediterranean-style estate in Ross was expanded and remodeled by Marks & Marks Design for a young family, balancing comfort and character while preserving the property’s original 1930s detailing. The design incorporates antique Spanish doors, salvaged tiles, and hand-hewn ceiling beams alongside more contemporary materials including Cumaru hardwood and honed surfaces.

A custom lighting system by Vita Pehar Design integrates decorative sconces and directional spotlights to create layered ambiance throughout the residence. Landscape architect Michael B. Yandle restructured the grounds around established oaks and cypress, integrating roses, olive trees, and natural stone pathways. Sustainability features include a concealed rooftop solar array.
